Facebook Can Generate "Mood"

If you feel sad and melow, do not look in the mirror to restore mood, but go to your Facebook page. Conclusion The researchers from Cornell University found that social networking sites is highly potent to increase self-esteem.

The reason behind the positive effects of Facebook (FB) is quite clear, among others, FB allows us to install only the things that are good and fun, such as images. In addition, FB also could describe us in a positive side.

"Not like a mirror that reminds us who we are and might actually have a negative impact on self-confidence if that description does not match our
ideal standard, FB can show the positive side of ourselves," said Jeffrey Hancock, one of the researchers.

He added that FB, is not intended to deceive themselves, but only help us show the positive sides and filter out the things that make us feel bad.

Hancock and his team asked 63 college students at Cornell to take part in laboratory experiments in social media at the university.

The students were divided into two groups, there are seated facing the computer that indicate their profile in FB or sitting in front of the computer that died. They are given a mirror facing the computer off. Students in the third group was asked to edit their FB profile.

Then the students were asked to fill out a questionnaire to measure their self-esteem. As a result, students who see their profile and edit it in the FB had higher levels of self-esteem of the most high.

The investigators suggest editing a profile on FB meaningful opportunity to optimize the presentation of good about themselves.

"FB Users can sort things what they want to show about yourself, including photographs and autobiographical information. They can present themselves as ideal," he said.
